Transfusion week
Elizabeth's hemoglobin was really low due to chemo. (It should be close to 12 and hers was close to 6.) She was feeling crummy Saturday and I had a feeling she needed blood and asked for a blood draw Saturday evening yesterday and, sure enough, her hemoglobin was way below the level that they transfuse at. Glad we could get in Monday. It was a little rough to end up at the hospital on a holiday mainly because they have half of the regular staff work throughout the hospital and it took 6 hours to get one unit. (It usually takes about 2 hours for one unit.) With driving we were gone 8 hours...it was a really long day. The one bright spot in our hospital day was that we ended up right next door to one of my favorite cancer mom friends๐ She's been in the hospital for an entire month with her 15 yr old son while he is recovering from his bone marrow transplant. They get to go home any day now!!!๐ Elizabeth's feeling better since getting blood a few days ago, but her blood draw this morning showed low platelets and so they want her to come in for a platelet transfusion tomorrow.๐ They agreed to redraw in the morning and see if it's trending up in hopes that we can avoid having to go get platelets. Other than that, it's been a good week. Elizabeth's been able to enjoy some time with family and friends, which is the BEST! Chemo starts again at the end of next week as long as her blood recovers. Love you all! Thanks.for prayers! They mean everything!!
